Description

Orix Braves are a professional baseball team in the Pacific League. Orient Lease bought the team from Hankyu Corporation on the 19th of October in 1988. With the baseball team’s ownership change, the old black and red based jersey design was changed to the Orix’s blue and the Braves’golden yellow tone design.

During their golden age, when they achieved 5 league championship wins, 3 Japan Series championships and has 10 A-class finishes, during which their manager was the great Toshiharu Ueda.
They also announced that they would keep using Hankyu Nishiomiya Stadium as their home field.

After the team changed owners, on their first season in 1989, their main players from the Hankyu period, also known as the Blue Thunder lineup, consisted of players like Kazuhiko Ishimine, former Minnesota Twins player Boomer Wells and Hiromitsu Kadota, who transferred from the Nankai Hawks. Thanks to their efforts they came in 2nd in the Pacific League, having the same number of wins and losses with Kintetsu and with only a 0.001% difference in win ratio.

In the following year of 1990 they fought against the Seibu Lions in the championships and again came second in the Pacific league. In the year 1991, after over 40 years had passed, they decided to move from their home field Nishiomiya stadium to Green Stadium Kobe. The club name was also changed from “Braves” to “BlueWave” and became known as Orix BlueWave.

The Orix Braves was active for only 2 years, but are forever etched in peoples memory as the era that brought in the Golden Age of Orix BlueWaves, led by Ichiro, So Taguchi and others.
