Kenta Maeda entered Hiroshima Toyo Carp by the first-pick of draft meeting from PL gakuen high school in autumn 2006. He was struggling in his rookie season of 2007. But Maeda was getting improved from 2008 season with number 18 on the back and became the ace pitcher at Carp soon after that. Before Maeda moved to the Dodgers in 2016, he achieved a 97–67 win-loss record with a 2.39 earned run average (ERA) and 1,233 strikeouts at NPB. He won the Sawamura Award twice in 2010 and 2015.
In 2015, he took part it the Samurai Japan squad for 2015 WBSC Premier 12. This competition was held in Japan and Taiwan. All of the Japan National team players were picked up from NPB 12 teams in Japan. And Kenta Maeda, the Sawamura Award starter, was selected as the Samurai Japan’s ace pitcher from the team manager Hiroki Kokubo, who was former Daiei Hawks and Yomiuri Giants slugger.
